Light rooms and lightings in Event photography
Organization, processing and Distribution of photos with less effort is the challenge of shooting any event. Lightroom simplifies the burden of organizing event photos through its keywording and file renaming options. Lightroom also handles RAW processing and image distribution through web and print media with much less efforts.
The first challenge, after importing the files into a new Lightroom catalog, is to arrange them in order. You can make thousands of pix to sort them as quickly as possible. The nature of
event photography
is that you shoot when there's an interesting meet-up between people or a snap of great light. Sometimes the sequence of events may not be photographed in any specific order. There may be lot of repetitions in shooting. Some moments were photographed six or seven times throughout the day. So, you should come up with a way to gather photos spread throughout the shoot and organize them in a way to facilitate searches in the future.
Make sure to keyword each photo with a single keyword. Advanced keywording is essential to those who license their images as stock photography. Keywords are typically how photo editors search for images. Filter the photos by keyword to sort out a specific group, give a descriptive file name to each image in the keyword group, regroup all the photos in the catalog by sorting on their file names, add detailed keywords to facilitate other searches, use colored labels to mark individual frames that have a specific person, add keywords to these special selections.
Speaking about the lighting factor for photography, go for flash rather than continuous. You want 3 minimum at around 250 W/s which would be fine for a small space. Minimum could be none if you are setting your studio where you could have wonderful natural light during the day though. You need to watch the white balance all the time. You'll need modifiers like softboxes and umbrellas as you'll want soft light at a 1:1 or 2:1 keyfill ratio for baby portraits. Reflectors will come in handy too & you'll need to think about a triggering system. It is better to have radio triggers (RF602's) as you won't want wires trailing everywhere. If you rent a flash, be sure to use some sort of modifier such as a Stofen or Gary Fong dome. You need a faster lens. You can get good results with a flash if you take the time to learn how to use it. Adjust your ISO to a higher number so you can increase your shutter speed. Get an external flash with a diffuser so the light will not be so strong. Ideally get one you can put where you want as well when shooting. The18-135mm lens is most preferable just because of the wide angle.
