Another thing you can try with your Digital Camera,
when shooting a young model is simply let her decide what she wants to do and if your not working for a client, where you have to show a garment to it's best advantage, let her come up with an idea for your Digital Teen Beach Shoot, for example.

Now I'm not saying, that this is how you should approach all your photo shoots, but after several model appointments using the same bikini model, sometimes she has something to say as well and you can quickly find a new set of great images for you portfolio or web page.

Your camera model will also identify with some of your previous images that pleased her and working with this in mind, it's not too difficult to build other images around the theme.

However if your still stuck for an idea for on how to get your model to pose in front of your camera this could be the answer, now you can learn Posing Secrets and never be stuck for a pose again.

A Pro photographer, who works with full time professional models as apposed to shooting a part time inexperienced young teen model, will mostly use a digital SLR camera and will often shoot a fairly static set up. Working with Digital Camera Equipment greatly speeds up the shoot as the images are examined on the spot on the digital cameras LCD screen. However, he will still shoot several frames from the same camera position concentrating on facial expressions, composition and the garments being photographed. Most probability because he's shooting for a magazine of brochure, requiring one or two shots only for the cover or a story line.

Also this technique could apply when shooting pictures for a catalogue where several garments have to be shown sometimes using more than one model.

The set up may still be from the same camera position the photographer is applying the same ideas as above that is; expressions, composition and garments details, for the catalog page or cover he might be working on.

This advice could be useful to you even if your not working on a project like this, it would still be a good thing to remember my comments about preparation for a location shoot especially if your just starting out on this type of photography, by covering with your digital equipment all the possibilities that may arise and to be prepared for all eventualities. Let's take a quick look at some of these again.

Always know exactly which location you will be using, either from previous experience or a prearranged visit a day or two before the shoot at the exact same time of day you proposed to shoot, this is so you are aware of the lighting conditions. It's just not good enough to say you know of a great place, unless you have previously visited the exact location you propose to use for the photo session.

Once you have achieved that first planned shot, it's a 'breeze' to get more creative and in so doing change your camera position and location and if you are using a digital camera, it's easy to check your progress by viewing your images on the spot. I apply this idea when working under pressure, that is having a client 'in tow' who only wants his garments to be perfect and by having your "perfect" planned shot in the bag, this will allow you to explore other ideas, often creating better shots than your first shot, simply because the pressure is off, knowing full well your covered anyway and allowing you create your next picture more easily. Once you have achieved you first Images, using a Digital Camera is a great asset.

I suggest it's not a bad idea for you to follow the above comments, even if your not working under such exacting conditions.

Your camera check list: If you are lucky enough to have an assistant working with you, make sure he/she knows, or better still has a copy of your check list so that nothing is left to chance, especially if your far from base on a "Bikini Beach" location for example. You check list should consist of not only your slr camera and accessories, such as additional lenses, flash gun, reflector, tripod, etc., but also items like the garments that the model will be wearing, make up, jewelry and so on. Perhaps a cold box for refreshments while working would be a good thing and if your shooting on the beach, don't forget the beach towel.

It would also be a sound idea at this stage to think about how your going to pose your model and to have a visual in your mind on how to achieve this, perhaps based on previous assignments or even read from the text on this website.

Always have a plan "B" to switch to, as all to often things don't work out and plan "B" might just save the day, like changing your camera position or model pose, or even the garments if it's possible.

It would be a very good thing If your using a digital camera, to brush up on your technique, especially if it's a new camera, perhaps by previously running some camera tests before hand.
